Dedicated to pursuing excellence, and enriching the community through the art of dance…

The Dance Theatre of Coastal Virginia, LLC, was founded in late 2019 in Chesapeake, VA. We are dedicated to creating a space for anyone to ignite, pursue, and excel in their journey as an artist. And we would love to be a part of your dance journey as we continue this path at The Mustard Seed Place in Portsmouth, VA.

What People Are Saying…

“I love having an adult class close to me with a teacher who is passionate and fun! It’s hard to find classes as an adult and Joy really makes everyone feel welcomed no matter your level.”

— Christin Foy, Ballet Dancer/Figure Skater

“I finally found a place where I belong! Ms. Joy really cares about us and wants us to not only dance well, but have our technique and knowledge! I look forward to my future as a dancer!!!”

— Melanie Williams, Youth Dancer

“Ms. Joy has raised me as a dancer for as long as I can remember. In that process I can only recall kindness, patience and hard work. Ms. Joy inspired my love of dance which made me into who I am today. From her teachings I was given the foundations to create choreography, lead dance teams of my own and have a high level of performance and technique. There is no one I’d rather trust to guide my matriculation of learning and growth in the dance world. ”

— Reese Aaron, current member Mahogany N Motion & Spriggs Burroughs Production

Founder, Joy Naik after winning first place in the female category of the charity event Dancing With The Hampton Roads Stars 2023.

From The Founder:

“Some have asked me why I didn’t name the studio after myself, and this is why...in conjunction to paying homage to the Dance Theatre of Harlem, where I first began my dance journey, dance has never been just about me but about my family...my community...The community that I was born in and has raised me and is a huge reason as to who I am today... I was born here.Christened here.Baptized here.Trained here.Graduated here. Met my husband here. Married here.Had children here.Kissed my sailor good bye here.Welcomed him back from deployments here. I live here. And so the name is a representation of the community that I wish to serve with the knowledge given to me thanks to the people that have been placed in my life…”

We will be offering Virtual and In-Person classes!

The studio started right at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. And like so many other businesses we had to learn how to adapt in order to continue educating our students. We do believe that in-person instruction is better, however, we have decided to keep the virtual option available for all of our classes except for Acro.

Let us a be a part of your dance journey…

“So many people walk around believing that they aren’t an artist. And that can be due to either being told they didn’t fit the mold, not given a chance, or because they just truly never actively pursued it. If no one has said it to you, let me be the first to say that there is an artistic expression in all of us, and if yours is or if you would like to see if you find that fulfillment through the art-form of dance, then this is the dance home for you.”
